OUR STORY

Small beginnings.
Big-hearted impact.

We help good things get to the people who need them, with dignity, care, and community at the center.

Boxes representing community generosity
WHY WE EXIST

From abundance
to belonging.

Edges of Kindness gathers the generosity of our community and carries it through trustworthy pathways from abundance to need, ensuring every resource is shared with dignity and care.

We connect retailers and generous neighbors with organizations supporting local families. Useful goods find new purpose instead of being wasted, and community partners can focus on the people they serve.

OUR MODEL

Generosity,
put into motion.

01

Gather generosity

We partner with businesses and community members to receive useful, quality goods.

02

Prepare with purpose

We sort and organize donations so community partners can find what they need.

03

Share with dignity

Trusted organizations help those goods reach individuals and families at no cost.

A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER

Stephanie's
heart.

“My goal was to donate 10 gifts. Yep, just 10 gifts!”

This founder's reflection has been adapted from Stephanie's personal account, preserving the moments and relationships that made EOK possible.

Last October, I decided we were going to give back to our community. I never imagined it would turn into something so much bigger.

I have always admired the generous hearts of my close friends and my aunt. They show up for people, and I wanted to make a difference like they have. I wanted my daughter to experience that, too.

The Parrot Head Club of Tidewater helped get me started through its support of Toys for Tots. With friends from the club, I set out to collect just ten gifts. My daughter and I approached businesses to see if they would contribute.

Then one store manager asked my daughter a question I will never forget: “How big is your vehicle?”

There were more items than we expected, and not just toys. There were clothes, household goods, and so much more. The manager told us that anything left behind would be thrown away. I knew those things could help people instead.

I turned to a dear friend, who connected us with wonderful organizations helping families across Hampton Roads. One conversation led to another. What began with ten gifts grew into support for many organizations between October 2 and December 24.

I thought it would end after Christmas. But the calls kept coming, and the donations were taking over my husband's shed. I couldn't stop once I understood what this was doing for our community.

With the help of a dear friend, a fellow volunteer and I turned that effort into our own nonprofit: Edges of Kindness. Even now, I am amazed by the people and organizations we can help.

I am grateful to my daughter, my husband, the friends and families who jumped aboard, the Parrot Head Club, and everyone who guided and encouraged us. And to the store manager who started that unexpected chain of generosity: you may never know how much good you helped set in motion.

This is only the beginning.

With love and gratitude,
Stephanie
